U-13 GIRLS ADVANCE TO STATE CUP FINALS
After a successful opening State Cup weekend in Hanford, the EGEFC U-13 Girls had a tremendous weekend in Morgan Hill February 6th and 7th. In their Round of 16 game on Saturday, they faced a tough Mustang Freedom side that came out extremely strong, playing with heart and great confidence. As the girls from Elk Grove found their stride, they took control of the game on their way to a convincing 4-1 victory.
The victory over the Freedom set up another match against a talented Central Valley Arsenal squad in quarterfinal play. The two teams had played twice recently ending in a 1-1 tie at the Blues Cup in September and a 3-0 victory for the Elk Grove girls in the Nor Cal State Cup Semifinal. Coach Cesar Plascencia, the recently named National Junior College Coach of the Year and Western Region Junior College Coach of the Year, had the girls prepared and motivated to face the challenge before them. The Elk Grove girls came out extremely strong, hitting on all cylinders as they effectively put pass after pass together. Spectators were heard saying what a visually pleasing style they play. Elk Grove scored early to take a 1-0 lead. The Arsenal squad battled hard and showed grit in their consistent attack. Elk Grove scored once more and held off Arsenal on their way to a hard fought 2-0 final score.
The victory over Arsenal puts the U-13’s in a Semi-Final matchup against Santa Rosa, who enters the game after scoring a late goal in a 1-0 victory over MVLA Mercury. Game time is 9:00 this coming Saturday the 13th, on the turf at Morgan Hill. It should be an exciting match, with the victor facing the Mustang Mavericks vs. Livermore winner on Sunday afternoon at 2:15 in Morgan Hill for the title.
The girls would love your support next weekend. Come on out!
