Elk Grove Everton FC U16 Girls Win Norcal Premiere State Cup

Elk Grove Everton FC’s U16 Girls didn’t let rain or wind gusts up to 25 mph stop them. In a nail-biting game, the girls finished off their 2009/2010 season by winning the championship game in the top bracket of the 2009 Norcal Premiere State Cup.
The team marched through the series undefeated. After winning the preliminary round and then overcoming the Mustang Fury in the quarter final games, the girls faced Mission Valley United in the semi final game on April 10 in Manteca. The score was tied 0-0 at half time, but the girls were hungry and in the second half they burned up the net with four goals while holding Mission Valley scoreless.
On April 11, with rain and gusting wind forecast for game time and only one substitute player, the girls again traveled to Manteca to face the Sonoma County Alliance. The weather forecast was right on target; the rain and wind picked up as the referee blew the starting whistle. In a well matched game, both teams went into half-time scoreless. Finally, in the 2nd half with the wind against her, forward Devlyn Jeter was able to put the ball in the net on a free kick. The Alliance came back to score on a loose ball after a corner kick to end regulation time with a 1-1 tie. After two overtime periods with no score, the game moved to penalty kicks. The Alliance was able to put three of their five penalty kicks in the net, but Everton was not going home without the win and placed four of their kicks in the net to take the championship title. Congratulations to the girls and Coach Rafael Ramirez!
